Save Money While Using Wifi During Your Flight

August 3rd, 2010 patrick No comments

First I attempted to spoof my mac.. Fail. Apparently no one wants to pay 12 dollars for 4 hours of internet. Me either! So I remembered that I had a plugin on my FireFox to change my Default User Agent. I used this to make their units think my laptop was a “mobile device” (iphone) in my opinion it is a mobile device (laptop).

Just keep that in mind next time your on a plane that has Wifi and you dont want to pay more that 6 bucks.

When is your iPhone 4 Coming in?

June 18th, 2010 patrick No comments

The iPhone 4 release date has been pushed to July 14th for anyone to orders a phone after the 17th of June. Most people who ordered their phone on June 24th will still be getting their phone delivered on June 24th. Reading all the other articles on the internet I started to worried if they are going to push the release entirely so I hopped on that apple.com and charted to chat with Michelle, an Apple Expert.

You are chatting with Michelle, an Apple Expert

How To Change the iPhone’s Root Password

November 6th, 2009 patrick No comments

Use MobileTerminal it’s available for free in the Cydia store.

Once you have MobileTerminal installed, launch it and you should see a prompt saying this or similar:

iPhoneName: ~ Mobile$

  • At that prompt, type: passwd
  • You’ll be prompted for the ‘old’ (current) password for the mobile user.  Enter this as the old password: alpine
  • You’ll then be prompted to enter the new password – so just type in your desired new password.  Use good password principles if possible (long and stong).  You will not see characters appearing on the screen as you type – that’s normal, not a concern.
  • You’ll then be prompted to re-enter the new password.  Do that.
  • You should then be returned to the Mobile$ prompt that you started on when opening the MobileTerminal app.  There’s no success message to say the password was changed – but if you’re returned to the prompt and do not get an error, the change was successful.  And you’re done with change for the mobile account.
  • The second primary admin account for the iPhone is called root – so now you need to change that as well.
  • Type this to switch to the root user: login root
  • Type this to start the password change routine again: passwd
  • Enter the old password for root (it is ‘alpine’, same as for the mobile user) and enter your desired new password twice, just as you did for the mobile account

Done.

September 24th, 2009 patrick Comments off

Tomorrow AT&T will be releasing Picture/Video messaging aka MMS to iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users. According to AT&T’s Facebook page, MMS will be enabled on late morning, Pacific time, on Friday.

Millions of users are expected to be using MMS on their iPhone tomorrow. While many AT&T users are excited about MMS, there are some users who are not excited about this for fear of AT&T’s network slowing or possibly going down. Will AT&T be able to handle all the MMS traffic, or will they go down? Let us know how you feel about MMS coming to the iPhone tomorrow, and whether or not you think AT&T will be able to handle all the traffic.

AT&T’s Facebook: “MMS Update: We know you’ve been eager for this service so we wanted to offer a quick update on the launch plans for MMS on Friday, Sept. 25. Late morning, Pacific Time, on Friday, the new carrier settings update enabling MMS should be live and ready …to download through iTunes. We’ll provide the steps and all of the details you need right here at that time.”

How to downgrade your iPhone from 3.1 to 3.0

September 18th, 2009 patrick 1 comment

If you are on Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to run Notepad as Administrator and then locate the hosts file and edit it. Then move on to step 4.

1. Press Windows + R on your keyboard or go to Run.

2. Type in the following: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.

3. Click OK. You should now get an Open With window. Click on Notepad and then click OK.

4. Your hosts file will now open in Notepad. Make a new line below 127.0.0.1 localhost and copy and paste in the following:

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

5. Click File – > Save in Notepad. Where it says “Save as type” make sure you select All Files and then click Save.

6. Download iPhone 3GS 3.0 (iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw) and save it to your desktop. If you haven’t already, download iTunes 9 and install it.

7. You must now put your iPhone 3GS in Recovery mode. Connect your iPhone 3GS to your PC. Hold down the top iPhone 3GS button and the bottom home button for 10 seconds, let go of the top button but continue holding the bottom home button until iTunes displays the following message: “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone 3GS before it can be used with iTunes.” Your iPhone 3GS screen should be black.

8. Open iTunes, press shift on your keyboard and click “Restore“. Locate the iPhone 3GS firmware 3.0 file you downloaded in step 6 and iTunes should now begin restoring it.

note: If you get unknown error (3002), it means your Cydia on file system was not hashed. You cannot ever downgrade to firmware 3.0. Just stay on iPhone 3GS 3.1 firmware for now and wait for the iPhone 3.1 jailbreak to be released.

MMS iPhone 3G/3GS date announced

September 4th, 2009 patrick No comments

In a press release today AT&T has announced that the iPhone 3G/3GS will finally be getting Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) support. Many iPhone users have been waiting impatiently for this, and AT&T has finally announced a release date.

AT&T says that MMS will be coming to the iPhone 3G/3GS on September 25 through a free software update. That means the iPhone 3.1 update will not support MMS, because it’s rumored to launch on September 9, the same day the iPod Touch 3rd generation is announced by Apple. Apple will probably issue the MMS update in an iPhone 3.1.1 update.

Sept. 9 sounds so much better than the 25th. Well atleast the MMS is going to happen. ATT needs to stop dragging their feet. Its bad for business.
